Vin Scully's final game at Dodger Stadium
As long as the Dodgers have been in Los Angeles, one voice has been associated with the team —Vin Scully.
He will broadcast his final home game (against the Colorado Rockie) at Dodger Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. But he met with the press a final time on Saturday.
Ever a lesson in humility, Scully walked in exactly on-time and looked sheepishly at the packed room of reporters, apologizing for interrupting our day.
"I know you have a lot of work to do, so it’s kind of nice to have you here," he said, "so I do appreciate it."
Then he took questions. The one that’s on a lot of people's minds: How is the 88-year-old feeling right now, as he’s about to retire after 67 seasons?
"All I feel is thanksgiving. The lord has blessed me. He gave me this job at such a youthful age and allowed me to live and do it for 67 years. What am I going to say? Darn it why didn’t I get number 68?"
Next weekend, Scully will broadcast the Dodgers' final series in San Francisco. What will he do after that?
He laughed and said he has no idea.
"Maybe the first thing I’ll do Monday and put my watch in a drawer, and just think, I can do anything I want."
