3 in critical condition after school bus crash in Anaheim (updated)

Update 5:58 p.m.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Bob Dunn told KPCC that in addition to the driver and two students who were transported to local hospitals in critical condition, three students were transported with minor injuries. The other six students were released to their families to transport them to hospitals. 

The bus is on an embankment on Nohl Ranch Road north of Walnut Canyon.

The Orange Unified School District Superintendent’s Office was notified at approximately 4:00 p.m. this afternoon that a school bus carrying eleven middle school students from an after school activity at El Rancho Charter Middle School was involved in an accident on Nohl Ranch Road near the Anaheim Hills Golf Course. No other vehicle was involved in the accident. The District is advised that the CHP and Anaheim Police Department are on the scene. Additionally, the District was informed that five students and the driver have been transported to local hospitals. Parents are in the process of being notified. The driver of the bus has been a full time Bus Driver for the District since October 2010. As is customary, the California Highway Patrol will be investigating this accident.

At least 12 people are being treated for injuries after a bus crash on Nohl Ranch Road in Anaheim Hills Thursday, Anaheim Fire Department Lt. Bob Dunn told KPCC. Earlier, 13 people were reported injured.

Two students and the driver are in critical condition.

UC Irvine Medical Center spokesman John Murray told KPCC the bus driver had been transported to the hospital and was being examined but no further info about his condition was available. 

The bus is from El Rancho Charter Middle School in the Orange Unified School District and was heading to its last stop when the crash occurred at about 3:40 p.m.

The bus became lodged between two trees at an Anaheim golf course, according to the California Highway Patrol, NBC-LA reported.

Nohl Ranch Road was closed between Camino Vista and Stage Coach Road, according to the television news station.
